  4. Hi how big is Pak Pak now? Does he have any health problem? Is he housebreak?

    Comment by ken | January 10, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Ken, Pak Pak doesnt have any health issues and is house trained. However, at anew environment, you’ve got to give him some time to adjust. Are you interested in him?

      Comment by wahfugu | January 10, 2010 | Reply

  5. How big is Pak Pak now? My apartment is only 1800 sq ft only. I read from article that the type of dogs like Pak Pak always have hip problem and they usually have a shorter life span like 10-12 years.

    Comment by ken | January 10, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Ken, Pak Pak hasn’t got any hip problems at this point as he is being walked a few times everyday and one of the problems with larger dogs is that they don’t get enough exercise. It is also inherited for some, but this isn’t the case for Pak Pak at this moment. (Of course I cannot guarantee whether this will happen in the future). As for lifespan… All larger dogs have about the same lifespan 10-12 years (in or around), so that’s on par with other large dogs. I have known a Pyrenees Mountain Dog to be 16 years old and still alive, so it really depends on the dog itself and how it is kept. So far, I think Pak Pak was kept in an extremely good state. As for cats, I am asking about this, but I don’t know on top of my head. Will get back to you.

  9. Hi Jen,

Could you tell me more about Jenny the Samoyed? I note from the website that she is smaller than a typical Samoyed probably due to stunted growth being kept in a cage but exactly how big is she? Our flat is around 1200 sq ft only. Also we have a cat and note that Jenny is good with cats as well. But if she is kept in a cage, how can we know that she is good with cats? Will she be in Cosmo pet in North Point on Sunday? If so, we would like to meet Jenny.

    Thanks.

    Comment by Sonia | January 15, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Sonia, Yes, Jenny will be coming to Cosmo (as it stands, but you never know with this fluctuating owner) we have agreed to pick her up in the morning. Jenny lives with a friend called Bungee, another Collie and 2 cats on the roof. In the past, they use to live in the same household, but since being evicted (or since the owners sold the flat) they have been kept in a cage. She is smaller in size… but i dont know how heavy in terms of kg and lbs. I will probably place her on the scales when I am in Cosmo, but before then, I cannot tell you how much smaller. She is smaller when looking at her, but i can’t tell you exactly how much smaller. Come to Cosmo and she should be there waiting… Thanks and see you then!

We think she is a poodle, but i have a feeling she is a bichon.. with the shaven fur, we can’t really tell till the fur grows longer. would you like to meet snowy? she is currently on Lamma with Sheila (LAP founder) but we can definitely arrange. (once you approve it once, you can leave as many messages as you like) Sorry for the delay, have been rescuing many animals this wk and will share soon. Joy? We don’t have a cocker spaniel called Joy, Joe? He was adopted before the Easter, but his owners didn’t come for him till after Easter, just to be safe, we kept him on the site, in-case someone else was interested and we’d put them on the list. However, the owners did come back and he is now adopted! You can leave messages without approving now and it will appear automatically.

Alice is younger, she is around 3 months old and a really calm and chilled out doggie, loves to be belly scratched and can be met anytime, She lives on Lamma at the moment with our foster, but a great place with lots of other doggies and visitors. As for Coco, also lovely, around 2 years old, excellent with other doggies. She is desexed and very gentle. You can meet them with your kids and I am sure you’d bond instantly….

  23. Hi Jen,
I have two mongrels about two years old. I read the news about the German Shephard, Sky 2 and he seems to be very obedient. I am a bit interested in him but I am afraid he cannot get along with my two other dogs and he may be very bossy to them too. In addition, I am scared it is difficult to chnage its habits as it is already four years od. Do you think it will be easier or more suitable for me to adopt another puppy instead? Please get me your advice. Thanks.
    Christina

Comment by Christina Tse | June 24, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Christina. Sky is a very friendly and loveable dog. I somehow thinks he is unlikely to attack another dog if not provoked. You could always give it some time by bringing your two dogs and Sky together and checking their reactions first? Then perhaps allow them to see each other more often (in another week or so) before making a decision? Puppies are a no brainer.. but it also means all the toilet training, biting and teaching.. Sky is very obedient and easily trained. All dogs, of any age can be trained. it’s about schedules and routines. I am sure Sky can do that too. Why don’t you meet Sky first?

      Comment by wahfugu | June 24, 2010 | Reply

  24. Hi Jen,
Thanks for your advice but I forgot to tell you that my elder boy is afraid of big dogs and has some fear aggression. He needs a lot of time to trust a stranger or another dog. Certainly it will be easier for him to accept a puppy but the problem is we cannot predict the baby’s temperament such as whether it will be aggressive and want to become the leader of the pack which is definitely not accepted by my son as he is used to being the alpha of the two. We may know more an adult’s temperament but I don’t think we can tell much about Sky now. Please let me know more about Shaq too. I will discuss your suggestion with my family. Thanks.
    Christina

Comment by Christina Tse | June 24, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Christina, nearly all puppies are gentle and will develop characteristics in life. Dogs that arrive in the household at a later stage will work out the hierarchy and you dont need to worry about that for puppies. I have an OES Alpha male as well and he is the big bro of the street, let alone the home. I therefore can only foster dogs that are smaller in size or puppies. We recently (last Feb) took a puppy in that we knew will grow to be as large or larger than my OES.. Hoping he will learn and be friendly with larger dogs… Jimmy is now 7 months old… He is larger than my OES, but has the most desired personality. He knows my OES is the boss. The dogs will work out who is the leader themselves. the later they come the more lower down. Between Jimmy and my OES, there is a miniature poodle and the poodle, though tiny, bullies Jimmy.. So it’s not about size.. they will work it out. Puppies are better than grown dogs, if this is the case.. but it’s how you socialse them and introduce them too.. SHAQ…. EXCELLENT is all I can say. I took care of them since they were 20 days old… Shaq is calm, gentle, easy and fun.. He would have fitted in my household so i have a feeling he will fit yours…

  25. Hi Jen,
You are really nice to give me your professional advice. I have some more questions. Are Kobe, Shaq, LeBron siblings? I want to know if there is a high chance that Shaq will grow into a small dog since I prefer a medium-sized dog. From the pictures of Kobe and LeBron, they seem to be quite small. Moreover, how old are they now? Still two months old or older already? Thanks.

  28. Hi, I have never had a dog all my life and would want to to foster one to try if I can handle it. Personally I like big dog more, have heard that they are more obedient and stable. Can you advise? Thanks.

    Comment by Phyllis | July 6, 2010 | Reply

    • Hi Phyllis, it is great that you’d like to take the first step… Large dogs are not as difficult as they seem will be a better way to put it. But they are physically more strong and therefore though it’s easily controlled with experience, it can seem like a handful if you are not use to holding (controlling) large dogs. Do you work during the day? Do you have someone that can attend to the dog if you do work? What about starting off with a medium size dog that isn’t very demanding? Would love for you to try fostering. Lets have a chat? You can reach me on 91302919.

  30. Dear Jen,

I always love the animals and I once raised my own puppy. Recently, I moved into a place where I can raise dogs. However, I cannot make life-long committment to them now since I am not sure whether I will still be in HK in 2 years. Therefore, I would like to try fostering if possible. I love big dogs but my current place is only 290sq with one tiny bedroom. I guess I can only provide a quality life to small-size dogs or puppies… Can you give me some suggestion? Many thanks…
